Words of Wisdom: Satin Lies

John 8:44 tells us that Satan is the father of all lies, when Satan lies that is consistent with his character. He has always hated the truth because there is no truth in him. Satan lies to gain power over our lives, to manipulate us away from following or seeking God. Have you ever heard someone say “The Devil made me do it”? In reality, the Devil or Satan has no power over any of us unless he can get us to fall for one of his lies!
Satan has no morals or boundaries when it comes to lies. He will use politicians, he will use the media, he will tell you that you are too fat, too skinny, too tall, too short, too smart, too dumb, the wrong color, the wrong sex, that you don’t have the right job, the right friends, the right house. Satan will even use religion to lie to you. He will put people in your lives who look like Christians or Preachers, and use them to lie to you. He will tell you prayer doesn’t help, he will tell you that you are unworthy of God’s love because of all the bad you have done. Satan will try to convince you there is no way out of your troubles, or that it is too late to right the wrong. Satan will offer you solutions through alcohol or drugs or any number of destructive things.
So how do we sort through these lies to find the truth? We can follow the example Jesus Christ gives us in Luke chapter 4, while being tempted by Satan, Jesus was offered the authority over all kingdoms. The very authority he already had through his father! Jesus refused Satan by quoting God’s word.
We can do the very same. God gave us free choice to live our lives as we see fit because he loves us. We can rebuke Satan and honor God by using God’s word to expose the lies and reveal the truth.
Proverbs chapter 1-29 by King Solomon is full of wisdom and helpful advice to get us started.
